Another print of this rare etching is held in the The MET’s collection…Frame: 14.5“ w x 16.5“ h x approx 7/8“ deepPrint dimensions: 7-1/8“ w x 9-3/4“ hWeight approx 1lbBetween 1641 - 1644 Hollar made no less than three sets of the seasons shown as women in fashionable dress, with anonymous verses below. This ‘Summer’ print is from the earliest of the sets, featuring a three-quarter length figure in an interior setting, wearing a veil against the sun, and presenting seasonal fruit.Inscriptions in 2 columns in Latin & English read:"AESTAS Lenes æstivi ZEPHYRI ... flabra le vare solent / SVMMER In Sumer when wee ... depell the heate"Wenceslaus Hollar’s (1607-1677) views of London form an important record of the city before the Great Fire of 1666. He was prolific and engraved a wide range of subjects, producing nearly 2,800 prints, numerous watercolours and many drawings.Professionally framed & matted in 2016. Top two corners of print have tears & were professionally conserved / reattached. Numerous small dings to frame, easily touched up with marker/paint.
